Najib Noorashid obtained his Bachelor’s Degree (Hons.) in Secondary Education (Malay medium) with a First Class Honours at Universiti Brunei Darussalam, where he was awarded with the Book Prize Award for four consecutive years. He was also bestowed with the University Silver Medal 2007/2011 for best academic achievement and the BLNG Certificate of Academic Excellence for outstanding achievement. He later graduated with MA in Sociolinguistics from University of Essex, U.K. in 2012, and recently submitted his PhD thesis in Applied Linguistics (UBD) in 2018. He won the First Prize in Feature Writing Competition at PEAsean Writing Competition in 2013. Previously, he also worked as a reporter at the News and Current Affairs Section (2007) and editor at the Foreign Desk Unit, World News Section, Radio Television Brunei (2014-2015). Fascinated by sociolinguistic studies, he focuses research and writing on issues involving linguistic diversity and national education in Brunei and has since published in Elsevier, IJAL and GEMA Online, among others. He is currently working as a research assistant for a number of research projects in UBD.
