Masitah Shahrill

Dr Masitah Shahrill is a Senior Assistant Professor and Teacher Educator at the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education (SHBIE), Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD). She obtained her BSc (Hons) and MSc in Pure and Applied Mathematics from University of Northumbria at Newcastle and University of Reading in the UK, respectively. She joined UBD as a lecturer in August 2001 and later pursued her graduate studies (MEd and DEd) in Mathematics Education at the University of Melbourne, Australia.

Dr Masitah has held several administrative appointments, for SHBIE as the Academic Group Convenor for Mathematics Education (March 2009 to December 2010), Programme Leader for Initial Teacher Preparation (January 2011 to June 2014), and Deputy Dean (Academic) (August 2014 to February 2015 and January to June 2018). Meanwhile for the Office of Assistant Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs), UBD, she has served as the Director of Studies (February 2015 to June 2017 and July 2018 to June 2020), and the Head of Teaching and Learning Centre (July 2016 to July 2017).

Dr Masitah is passionate about raising the quality of teaching and learning of students and their development in the schools and in the higher education settings. She has supervised and is currently supervising several graduate students (Master and PhD) of SHBIE, and collaborated with almost all for international journal publications and presentations at international conferences. Dr Masitah’s research interests are in teacher education, mathematics education, higher education, teaching and learning, assessment, classroom research, and youth practices and their education.
